Rhodes

If your holiday goal is to be in a place full of sunshine, beautiful scenery and above all, beautiful sandy beaches, you must go the island of Rhodes. It has the second place in the ranking in terms of the most visited Greek islands. Despite the relatively small size (1400 square kilometers) every year like a magnet attracts thousands of tourists.

Rhodes is situated in the Aegean Sea on the fringes of three continents Europe, Asia and Africa. In the middle of the tourist season it can be a little crowded, but it does not affect in any way the quality of hotel service, friendliness of local people, nor the memory of the beautiful views kept in mind.

The capital of the island is a town called Rhodes, located on the north coast. The airport serving the island is located less than 11 miles away. The whole island has a very well thought and organized communication network, so there is no problem with getting to the remote, beautiful spots.

The majority of tourists arriving on the island start their tour from sightseeing the capital. There is a beautiful old town, which is on a UNESCO World Heritage Site. That’s a huge distinction, as throughout Greece, there are only seventeen such sites. Walking along the four kilometer long ancient walls surrounding the old town, you will feel a real breath of the history of this place. We recommend depart from the main streets, especially from Turistica Via, to fully experience the magical feeling of this place.

Equally large attraction is the Grand Master’s Palace, built in the fourteenth century. Unfortunately, due to the great gunpowder explosion in 1856, it was destroyed. During the reign of the Italians on the Greek island, it was rebuilt with the main purpose of the summer residence of Mussolini. Well-equipped chambers to this day serve as museum objects. Acropolis

Greeks are very religious people, so at each step we encounter small, charming chapels, even high in the mountains. Fragrant turbulent history of wonderful places and monuments on Rhodes, are not missing. One can not fail to visit the library with the Islamic manuscripts, see the Süleymaniye mosque or go to the Byzantine clock tower, where you can admire the wonderful views. When we get to the top of the hill of Mt. Smith (image above) we will feel like on the Hellenistic stadium, since precisely in this place, in ancient times, preparations for the Olympics took place. The evidence is the remnants of ancient columns of the Temple of Apollo. You will be inspired by residue of rich decorations which can be seen in the ruins.

Rhodes is a blend of many cultures, since because of a good location was occupied repeatedly. Perhaps that is why even the most discriminating tourists will find something interesting. For the laying on the beach fans we recommend located in the northeastern part of the island, the largest tourist destination Faliraki where the sandy, beautiful beach access is spread over several kilometers. The western part of the island is more than the eastern green embellished.

Lindos Huge impression on the tourists makes Petaloudes - Butterfly Valley. There is like in the other, unearthly world. Thousands of colorful creatures are floating in the air, sitting on every stone and tree. They are attracted by the juice secreted by the growing there green. The view is phenomenal and unforgettable. During the trip well worth a visit are also three other ancient cities: Lindos (image above) Kamiros and Ialyssos. We guarantee that the memories and experiences will be great, and will remain long in your hearts.
